State Champions decided in Mt Evelyn

Yarra Ranges Athletics hosted day 2 of the Little Athletics Victoria State Multi Event Championships on Sunday at Morrison Reserve, Mt Evelyn. The first ever Victorian State championship held at the fantastic venue at Morrison Reserve.

Day 2 was held at Morrison Reserve after the original competition , held in Bendigo in late January, was cancelled due to extreme storms on the day. This meant some of Victoria’s most talented and enthusiastic little athletics athletes travelled to Mt Evelyn to compete for the title of Victorian Champion. Watched by our resident wedge tailed eagles, several Yarra Ranges Athletics athletes competed on the day.  All athletes performed extremely well in the hot conditions. Results are: U14 Girls Heptathlon Chelsea Thompson 10th, U12 Girls Pentathlon Mia Strudley 27th, U13 Girls Pentathlon Estelle Peterson 18th, U13 Boys Pentathlon Camden Hewitson 15th, U14 Boys Heptathlon Harrison Van Duuren 7th, U14 Boys Heptathlon Patrick Keating 9th, U14 Boys Heptathlon Zane Wheeler 11th.

On Saturday our senior athletes had the opportunity to compete in the Athletics Victoria Knockout Final. Next week 9 club athletes and their family’s will travel to Perth for the Australian Junior Athletics Championships starting on Wednesday. Good luck to Lateisha Willis, Tayleb Willis, James Laven, Georgia Laven, Olivia Twining, Chelsea Thompson, Harrison Van Duuren, Ruby Dixon and Emily Noonan. Keep up to date with results on our Facebook page or website.

Saturday morning was an opportunity for our little athletics athletes to achieve some PB’s at our PB day. It was great to see such a fantastic turnout of athletes all trying very hard to achieve a result they had never achieved before. Our next round of little athletics will be on Friday night, starting from 6.00pm. This will be our final round for the year so we look forward to seeing you all there with smiles and bundles of energy to enjoy your last competition for the 2015-16 season.
